RNID Connect: Accessibility and inclusion

RNID Connect Month 6: Accessibility and Inclusion

Six months in, six months to go. You’re a powerhouse!

This month we learn words and phrases that’ll help you achieve one of the most important parts of being a Deaf awareness ally: how to better include deaf people and people with hearing loss in the conversation.

Things to remember when using BSL

    • Remember to use facial expressions as well as signing with your hands – watch the videos carefully below. BSL users will read your face as well as your hands.

    • Remember to face the person you’re communicating with directly, so they can see you clearly.

    • Practice makes perfect. Practice BSL in front of a mirror, or with friends and family, to embed your learning.
