Supporting your staff who are deaf or have hearing loss

With the right support, people who are deaf or have hearing loss can thrive at work.

Encourage staff to be open about their needs and learn how you can support them at work.

Each person will have a different experience of hearing loss and will have different communication needs. Ask staff about their needs rather than making assumptions.

Once an employee shares information about their condition with you, it’s OK to ask how their hearing loss affects what they can hear, and the effect it’s having at work. You can then work with your employee to put the right support in place.
