The biggest #TeamRNID for the TCS London Marathon yet!

Runner Julie waves to our volunteers at Tower Bridge

44 incredible runners smashed the world’s most iconic running challenge this Sunday at the TCS London Marathon, making it the biggest #TeamRNID we’ve seen yet!

Through the sweat, cheers and not too many tears, they’ve so far raised a whopping total of £97,000 for RNID between them – and counting! These funds will all go towards supporting people who are deaf, have hearing loss or tinnitus.

One of our runners, Lydia, shares why she decided to run for RNID:

“I raised money for RNID and ran the marathon today on behalf of my two friends who have tinnitus. I’ve seen firsthand how difficult it is for them to cope with their tinnitus. I would love to see a cure to help my friends and others like them.”

A special shout out to runner Andy, who took his fundraising to a whole new level in the run up to the marathon – and kept us all entertained – by documenting it all on his social media.

Andy “put the fun into fundraising” by dyeing his hair, waxing his legs, and running a pre-marathon challenge in fancy dress in order to surpass his target of £2,000! We’re very impressed, Andy!

Cheering on the team

Some of our wonderful volunteers cheering on our runners and keeping motivation high

A wonderful 17 members of RNID staff, our communities and their families volunteered to support our runners from the checkpoints at Tower Bridge, Canary Wharf and Embankment, cheering them and helping to keep them motivated. For our volunteers, the day was a little chilly at times, but for our runners the weather was perfect. They loved hearing the cheers and celebration of our volunteers, who met them at every checkpoint.

Our very own Crystal Rolfe, Director of Strategy, said:

“I was so proud to run the London marathon yesterday, in memory of my friend who had hearing loss and to raise money for RNID. The atmosphere on the day was incredible. I’d highly recommend signing up to run for 2025. I got lots of support for both the race and fundraising from Liz at RNID.
Running for RNID makes such a difference to the lives of people who are deaf, have hearing loss or tinnitus. With your help, we can make an enormous impact in changing public attitudes around deafness and hearing loss, encouraging people to check their hearing, like they do their eyes and their teeth, and funding research into silencing tinnitus and restoring hearing.”

Director of Strategy for RNID Crystal Rolfe shares her motivation and what her fundraising can achieve.

Post race celebrations

After the race, some of our runners met us at our celebratory reception, where they could show off their medals, pose for photos with their families, and join us for food and bubbly, to mark their amazing achievement.
